Pope Francis

Pope Francis

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that at the beginning of this Easter season we mourn the loss of our beloved Pope Francis. A Requiem Mass (a Mass for the repose of a soul) will be celebrated Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 PM for him.

Pope Francis (88) was elected pope on March 13, 2013. He was the first Jesuit and first Latin American to lead the Catholic Church.

During February, he spent time in the hospital with bilateral pneumonia. A slow recovery led him to return to his residency in late March. He made his final public appearance April 20th, Easter Sunday, before passing away on April 21, 2025 at 7:35 AM local time. He was the 265th successor to Saint Peter.

At this time the church asks us to enter into a 9 day period of mourning and intercessory prayer for the repose of his soul.
